Swing on by The Base Camp to hear from Rachel Vandevoort, Director of the Office of Outdoor Recreation, and sample the brand-new Juniper IPA from Blackfoot, brewed just for this weekend!

About Montana’s Office of Outdoor Recreation:

The Office of Outdoor Recreation was founded to ensure that our recreation resources continue to thrive and provide opportunity for current and future generations. To further the growth of this industry and safeguard the unique interests that enable its success, the Office of Outdoor Recreation serves as a centralized point of contact and coordination for the broad outdoor recreation constituency. The office focuses on advocacy, policy, support, and growing new opportunities within the outdoor recreation industry—wherever your business might involve outdoor recreation, we can help. This commitment makes Montana an ideal environment to innovate, develop, test, and use products and services that will determine the future of the industry and elevate the economies around it.

An astounding 98 percent of Montanans say outdoor recreation is important to their quality of life. Montana’s outdoor spaces—amazing, unmatched resources including approximately 38 million acres of public land, 170,000 miles of rivers, 3,200 named lakes, and habitat that spans mountain peaks to prairie wilderness—are part of our national identity, and the backdrop for opportunity.

Those open spaces are good business. Montana’s Outdoor Recreation Industry accounts for $7.1 billion in consumer spending and more than 71,000 jobs—the 2nd largest sector of the state’s economy.

Make sure you visit the Blackfoot after your hike to try the NEW Juniper IPA. Better yet, $1 of every beer purchased that day will be donated to Montana Wilderness Association to help us better protect the public lands in your own backyard. And finally, check out the commemorative t-shirts made just for this weekend while supplies last!

Grab a slice from Bridge or the various food trucks parked outside while listening to live music. Band TBD.

Transitioning from alpine skiing to the backcountry can be a rewarding but daunting endeavor. To help with the gear learning curve, The Base Camp is hosting an evening with SCARPA and G3 to delve into the equipment required to transition from inbounds skiing and into the backcountry.

Topics to be covered*:

All participants will go home with a free G3 ski strap, a key piece to your backcountry gear kit.

There will also be a silent auction benefiting the Last Chance Nordic Ski Club. It’s a great chance to bid on some sweet outdoor gear from brands like SCARPA, MSR and Therm-A-Rest.

Event is free and refreshments will be provided.

Presentation starts:

*This event will be largely focused on the gear required and not around avalanche and snow condition awareness. Check with your local avalanche center to find out more information on avalanche safety.
